After a fantastic inclusive day, we are delighted to announce our finalists and winners of the 2022 National Service User Awards:

Health and Wellbeing

Winner:
Create & Resonate
Rampton Hospital, Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust

Modern occupations rely on digital technology. Accessing this technology is challenging in high secure environments. It is this issue ‘Create & Resonate’ aims to address. Through the mediums of music, film-making and animation we aim to support meaningful patient led content whilst developing living skills for everyday life.

Excellence in Co-Production

Winner:
Co-Produced Patient CPA / Ward Round Training
Arnold Lodge, Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust & IMPACT Collaborative

IMPACT our collaborative partner of Medium Secure Mental Health Services in the Midlands have identified too many service users don’t have the confidence to lead their ward rounds and CPA meetings. As such Impact’s Lived Experience Facilitator launched a pilot to help service users co-produce a co-delivered training program.

Recovery and the Arts

Winner:
The SHH Podcast
Stockton Hall Hospital, Priory Group

A service user at Stockton Hall asked to run a podcast regarding Mental Health Stigma. He spent a great deal of time promoting and advertising the podcast to potential guests. Over the last 18 months or so we have produced 6 episodes of service users and staff giving their honest opinions on Mental Health Stigma and where they believe it fits in to modern society.

Breaking Down Barriers

Winner:
Deaf Awareness Week
Grampian Ward, Rampton Hospital, Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust

Service users of Grampian (Deaf) ward planned and hosted events for Deaf Awareness Week, including a “voices off” football tournament, challenging hearing service users to play without sound; a charity event with activities like lipreading challenges and “Guess the Sign”; and have co-written a Deaf Awareness presentation to deliver to hearing peers.

Outstanding Service User Leadership Award

Winner:
A Tale of Three Cities
Mental Health Network, NHS Foundation

Bringing together Centre for Mental Health, Anna Freud Centre, 42nd Street and Forward Thinking Birmingham, A Tale of Three Cities was a series of events during Borderline Personality Disorder Awareness Month that aimed to break down stigma and put the voices of service users at the heart of vital conversations.

The Mark Britton Service User Choice Award

Winner:

A service user written presentation aimed at breaking down the barriers and removing the stigma from self-harm. Written from lived experience, and using real-life situations to explore the reasons that people may engage in self-harm and what staff can do to support those in crisis from a service-user’s perspective.
