Health and Wellbeing

Service users at Francis Willis Unit wanted to improve their physical health and have fun doing it. Each month they researched a new topic and created an informative noticeboard and set themselves an activity challenge.

Excellence in Co-Production

Winner:
Transitional Stories
Rampton Hospital PICU, Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust

Transitional Stories aims to capture service users experiences of life on a PICU. From knowing you are moving there, to life on the ward. Stigma being one of the major issues. Segregation and the impact of this is also explored along with the support available when transitioning back to a treatment ward.

Breaking Down Barriers

Winner:
Diverse Mums’ Group
Perinatal Mental Health Service, Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust

The Diverse Mums Group was launched within Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust’s Perinatal Mental Health Service in September 2020. Driven by service users, it provides a safe space for pregnant women and new mums from diverse ethnic backgrounds to discuss their mental health and share cultural experiences.

Recovery and the Arts

Winner:
Smart Phone Movies

After successfully completing a smart phone movie making course, a service user had the idea to film and edit a short movie to be sent to service users prior to admission so they were able to have a visual introduction to the unit in order to support them to transition.

Outstanding Service User Achievement Award

Winner:
Nick – Peer Trainer
River House, South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust

Nick has undergone a momentous journey from service-user in a high secure forensic mental health hospital to working as a staff member at Recovery College helping others through sharing his lived experience. He is an inspiration to those who are struggling and stands against the stigma surrounding forensic mental health.

During the COVID-19 lockdown, the team had to be creative with how service users could engage with therapeutic work programmes. The service users were involved with making work programmes more meaningful and took on important responsibilities in the service.
